100Bio

Launching the World’s First 100% Biodegradable Foam Food Containers.

In 2016, foam packaging — polystyrene, Styrofoam, and their look-alikes — was still the default in food service: inexpensive, lightweight, and deeply harmful to the environment. 100Bio set out to disrupt that paradigm with a plant-based, compostable material designed to match the performance of foam while reducing carbon footprint, removing toxic chemicals, and supporting regenerative waste systems.

The core challenge: develop a brand, packaging system, and go-to-market strategy compelling enough to convince cafés, bakeries, and delivery operators to abandon the cheap, environmentally-destructive material they had relied on for decades.

As Head of Design, I led the visual and strategic development of 100Bio’s identity—translating complex materials science into a clear, credible, and commercially viable brand presence. I directed the creation of a visual system that balanced eco-innovation with real-world business practicality, while guiding structural packaging design that met food-safety standards, compostability requirements, and market-ready shelf appeal. My team and I collaborated closely with material engineers, customers, and suppliers to ensure the brand’s promises were backed by technical performance at every touchpoint.

Key Contributions

Defined the brand’s design voice and visual identity that positioned 100Bio as both innovative and approachable — critical for driving adoption in a price-sensitive, convenience-driven industry.
Designed functional container and lid systems with clear visual hierarchy, ensuring clarity of use, manufacturability, and alignment with food-safety and compostability requirements.
Produced sales and marketing assets — including line sheets, client proposals, POS materials, and trade packs — that strengthened the brand’s presence across retail, B2B sales, and industry events.

Played a pivotal role in solidifying 100Bio’s reputation as an early leader in compostable packaging by unifying brand narrative, visual identity, and product performance into a coherent market position.

How I Got It Done

Strategy

Executive Communications

Partnered closely with the founder/CEO, turning early ideas and technical goals into clear narratives and actionable design. Built trust that enabled fast alignment, sharper decisions, and a brand strategy grounded in long-term vision.

Brand Identity

3D & Animation

Used Cinema4D to create hyper-realistic 3D animations that explained material performance and compostability better than static visuals. These assets elevated credibility and became core tools for sales, investors, and client education.

3D Prototyping

Traditional Tools

Created prototypes by hand, using calipers and compasses for precise measurements, sketched structures, and built physical mockups. This hands-on process enabled rapid iteration, accurate communication with engineers, and designs grounded in real-world performance.
